The
Annunciation
The angel Gabriel was sent
from God to the Virgin Mary, at Nazareth, a small
town in the mountains of Galilee. The angel having
taken the figure and form of a man, came into
the house and said to her: "Hail, full of
grace, the Lord is with thee. Fear not, Mary,
for thou hast found grace with God. Behold thou
shalt conceive in they womb, and shalt bring forth
a son; and thou shalt call his name Jesus. He
shall be great, and shall be called the Son of
the Most High; and the Lord God shall give unto
him the throne of David his father, and he shall
reign in the house of Jacob forever; and of his
kingdom there shall be no end." |

John
the Baptist Baptizing Jesus
John was reluctant to baptize Jesus,
for he said "I have need to be baptized by
you." John knew that Jesus was the son of
God. Jesus had no need to be forgiven of sins
because he was sinless. Knowing John's reluctance,
Jesus told him, "It is proper for us to do
this to fulfill all righteousness." So John
obeyed Jesus and baptized him in the Jordan River
near Bethany. When Jesus came up out of the water,
the Holy Spirit descended as a dove, and the voice
of God spoke from Heaven saying, "This is
my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased." |

Jesus
and The Samaritan Woman at the Well
Jacob's well was there; so Jesus,
wearied as he was from his journey, was sitting
beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.
A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus
said to her, "Give me a drink."
The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is
it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a
woman of Samaria?"
Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift
of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give
me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he
would have given you living water."
The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing
to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where
do you get that living water? Are you greater
than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and
drank from it himself, as did his sons and his
livestock."
Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of
this water will be thirsty again, but whoever
drinks of the water that I will give him will
never be thirsty again. The water that I will
give him will become in him a spring of water
welling up to eternal life." |
